Kailua is unique in the state of Hawaii for its impressive bodies of water, including the largest wetland in the Hawaiian Islands, two world class beaches and Enchanted Lake. The flow of these natural resources is an interesting reflection of the steady stream of activity throughout Kailua. In this dog-friendly town, you can walk, jog or bike to any of the numerous specialty shops, restaurants, salons, theaters, and stores for just about anything that you need in your home. However, Kailua’s small town vibe is deceiving since it has six grocery stories, including Whole Foods, the only hospital on the windward side of the island and is located next to the Marine Corps Base Hawaii on the Mokapu Peninsula.

The homes in Kailua are mixture of modest properties built during the post-war construction boom between 1950 and 1968. These houses had three bedrooms, two baths, a covered lanai and a carport. Most were single-wall construction on post and pier foundations. Although you can still find these original homes on the market today, the majority have been renovated or demolished and replaced with attractive modern structures. Not all homes in Kailua were built as part of a neighborhood development, most of the designer homes were erected on large lots with private architects creating masterpieces near the shoreline or on the hills overlooking the town.

If you are searching for a home in Hawaii, each of the neighborhood in Kailua has its own charm and character. This is a relaxing town is a wonderful place to call “home”.
